Please note, Chemeketa will conduct all official school business through your MyChemeketa student email. However, your personal email is important to have on record in case you need to reset your password on your student account.

  • Legal Name, Date of Birth & SSN

Legal name is required to be used for official documentation (transcripts, tax documents, etc.).

Legal name, date of birth, and social security number can only be updated using the Student Change of Information Form with a copy of the required documentation noted on the form.

  • Preferred First Name

Chemeketa Community College recognizes that many students use names other than their legal first name to identify themselves. We support the use of a preferred first name for students, while still maintaining the use of legal name required for academic records and data integrity.

Our intent is to support students who wish to –

    • Choose a name that aligns with their gender identity.
    • Use a nickname or middle name instead of their legal first name.

There are two ways to add, change, or remove your preferred first name –

    1. Log into your MyChemeketa and edit it on the Personal Information page
    2. Fill out the Change Preferred First Name form Change Preferred First Name form and submit the completed form to Enrollment Services on the Salem Campus or a Chemeketa location in your community with photo ID, or send as an attachment via your MyChemeketa email address

These changes will be updated within 1-2 business days and can take up to 24 hours to fully update in our systems.

We will use your preferred first name when possible in the course of college activities, but there may be circumstances where we are unable to use a preferred name and must use your legal name. Your preferred name will appear in your MyChemeketa, Chemeketa email display name, unofficial transcripts, class rosters, and in Canvas. It can also appear on your diploma when you graduate, if you choose. Your legal name must be used for official transcripts, financial aid, student employment records, and other official educational records.

Please note, in addition to legal reasons, there may be technical barriers that prevent preferred first name from displaying in certain places within Chemeketa systems for both students and staff. We will continue to work on our systems to address these technical issues.

Chemeketa reserves the right to remove or deny a preferred first name request if used inappropriately. This includes, but is not limited to –

    • Names using profane or inappropriate language
    • Names submitted to avoid legal obligations or to create misrepresentation
  • Employees

If you are a Chemeketa employee, any name changes must be made through the department of Human Resources.
